Food For Your Ears

Food For Your Ears

We’ve been told since we were children that if we eat healthy, we’ll stay healthy. Carrots are good for our eyes and milk is good for our bones. But it doesn’t end there. Lots of foods are good for your hearing health, too. We’ve broken them down by meals so you can eat well for your ears all day long.

Breakfast

Add bananas to your morning routine to get a big dose of potassium and magnesium. These nutrients help maintain body fluids, including the fluid in your inner ear.

Loud noises can cause free radicals in your bloodstream, leading to noise-induced hearing loss. Yogurt helps eliminate free radicals, and can help protect your ears from damaging noise.

Blend up a smoothie with bananas and yogurt along with some mango and kale – to get lots of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants – and you’ve set up your ears for a day of good hearing.

Lunch

Though it’s easy to pick up a fried fast-food lunch, it’s better for your waistline – and your hearing – if you choose a healthier option. Spinach contains folic acid, which helps in cell regeneration. Chicken, particularly dark meat, is high in zinc, which can help prevent ear infections. Throw it all into a salad with some cashew nuts (which also help fight infections) and you have a perfect, ear-healthy meal.

Dinner

When considering your ear health, you can’t go wrong with a dinner of meat and potatoes. Both pork and beef contain lots of zinc (to help prevent ear infections), and if you’re in a fancy mood, order the oysters. They’re high in zinc, too.

Potatoes are high in magnesium, potassium and folic acid, and are a great side to the meat in your dinner. Throw in some vegetables – all of which contain healthy vitamins and minerals to keep your ears hearing well – and you’ve got a perfect dinner for your ears and your stomach.

Something Sweet

Don’t worry, we didn’t forget about your sweet tooth! Bake yourself a sweet treat with dark baking chocolate – it’s loaded with zinc, and it will keep your ears healthy and your sweet tooth happy.

Get Your Ears Checked

Eating well is something you can do every day to keep your hearing health on track. Regular visits with an Audiologist will ensure that your ears are working they way the should, and that all your healthy eating is doing its job.
